Angel Oak is a Southern live oak (Quercus virginiana) located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. Angel Oak is estimated to be 500 years old.[1] It stands 66.5 ft (20 m) tall, measures 28 ft (8.5 m) in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet (1,600 m2). Its longest branch distance is 187 ft.[2] in length. Angel Oak was the 210th tree to be registered with the Live Oak Society.[3][4]
Angel Oak is a tourist attraction for those visiting the Charleston, South Carolina area.
The tree stands on land that was part of Abraham Waight's 1717 land grant.[5]
The oak derives its name from the estate of Justus Angel and his wife, Martha Waight Tucker Angel.[6] Local folklore tells stories of ghosts of former slaves appearing as angels around the tree.[7][8]

I just had the epiphany of my life. You ever have one of those moments when suddenly everything in your life comes together to a kind of fate....or journey down a path that you realized had been mapped out for you long before you took your first step. Angel Oak is that for me. Lol.... it all started with the tree...the one I slammed into in a car accident that put me in a coma. It took me on the path to become an artist. And the first painting I ever did back in 2001 or s o of "The Glory Tree" go figure... was of a tree with a glorious sun, an oak tree...go figure. And here I am 16 years later, from a guy just beginning art in a very late start, to be posting of a photo of Angel Oak, that seems to have revealed to me a vision of my spiritual faith.
